If you want to decorate a children's room, it is useful to take these 8 tips to hand as a guide.
tip 1
MAKE A PINTEREST BOARD
Can’t wait to get started on your children’s bedroom? There’s nothing wrong with a healthy dose of enthusiasm and you’ll certainly need it for your decorating project :-). But we do recommend deriving some inspiration beforehand, via Pinterest for example. This visual discovery platform enables you to create a personal ‘board’ for your baby or kiddo’s bedroom and quickly reveals your preference for a particular look and feel. Go with it
tip 2
DECIDE ON A COLOUR PALETTE
Your Pinterest ‘board’ and other channels also help to determine your preferred colour combinations. The decision to opt for bright or subtle colour tones is down to your own personal taste. Pop by a paint shop and ask for some samples. And consider incorporating a colourful wall mural for a dash of fun!
tip 3
CHOOSE A THEME & SHOP FOR MATCHING DECORATIONS
There are plenty of captivating themes for you to base your children’s room on; from jungle animals and pretty flowers, to eye-catching plants and dazzling planets ... but you can always opt for a more muted theme instead. You can also determine your theme by choosing for specific materials, such as rattan, bamboo or copper tones ... Shop for matching posters, cushions and other accessories that enhance your chosen theme. But try to stick to the same colour scheme as much as possible.
tip 4
CREATE 1 ACCENT WALL USING WALLPAPER
Children’s wallpaper comes in a variety of different styles and designs. Choose one that reflects your chosen theme, but dare to be bold! Children’s wallpapers typically feature striking patterns, yet more subtle designs are also available. Teenagers, for example, might prefer a more chilled bedroom vibe, and who are we to disagree? Always order a wallpaper sample to check that it’s a good match to your chosen paints (see tip 2).
tip 5
PAY ATTENTION TO AMBIENCE & ACOUSTICS
We all know that kids can be noisy. So good acoustics are incredibly important! A quality carpet and fabric curtains can make all the difference. Curtains are also extremely effective in darkening the room and adding extra warmth. When purchasing your carpet, make sure that it’s made from natural fibres for improved acoustics!
tip 6
ADD WALL STICKERS FOR A PLAYFUL TOUCH
Personalise your children’s room using funky wall stickers. There are plenty to choose from and they make an instant statement. Indeed, a name sticker on the bedroom door or above the headboard, or a fun animal or cartoon character that matches your chosen theme is guaranteed to add a playful touch! Try not to take it too seriously and enjoy experimenting with this :-)!
tip 7
COMPLETE THE LOOK WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTING !
Adequate lighting is a must in every children’s bedroom. Night lights can help your child to settle down and go to sleep. The children’s lighting market caters to every taste; from bedside lamps for cosy bedtime stories to study lamps for little ones who aren’t quite so little anymore :-).
tip 8
STORAGE SPACE & FURNITURE
If you’re planning on buying new furniture, then it’s best to source
safe, child-friendly options. Avoid sharp edges and make sure that the furniture you choose is both stable and durable. Young children are extremely creative and can quickly learn to unleash that creativity on their furniture using pens and crayons. Washable furniture is therefore highly recommended!
