Life in Ghent is good. So good in fact, that Griet and Maarten chose to settle there after their studies. With no regrets. In 2014 they bought a refurbished townhouse where they are enjoying city life to the full with their daughter Frida and their cat Morris. Welcome to their world of conscious choices, love of plants and beautiful DIY projects!

Griet and Maarten met while studying in Ghent and like many others, after their graduation they chose to make it their home base. When they first viewed a house right by the Gent-Dampoort train station, they quickly decided they had to have it. After all, in a big city like Ghent you need to be quick to snap up the deal!

They signed the papers in a weekend. “We had already viewed many old houses that still needed a lot of work, and to be honest, we felt that was too much of a challenge. When we found our house, it had just been completely renovated and all we had to do was change the kitchen. That was the ideal scenario for us”, Griet explains.

With some help from DIY enthusiasts in the family, Griet and Maarten designed a custom kitchen that seamlessly blends in with the dining and living room. They kept the polished concrete floor on the entire ground floor. Upstairs, they have the bathroom, the master bedroom and the bedroom of their daughter Frida.

In February, Griet and Maarten are expecting their second little miracle, so they are now working on another nursery. Mum Griet is having fun decorating while making conscious purchases. “I like to carefully consider what I buy. I try to focus on the essentials and I prefer to go for sustainable products, like wooden toys.” This love of sustainable living and nature is perfectly reflected in the family’s interior, which features animal prints, jungle theme decorations and a mix of interior plants.
